A Singaporean, who was injured in a tour bus crash while returning from Malaysia on Wednesday, is fighting for his life in a hospital in Kuala Lumpur.
Initially, there were reports that no one was critically injured, but The Sunday Times reported that R. Manokaran, a barber by profession, broke his arm and a wrist bone, and punctured his lung.
Manokaran is in the intensive care unit (ICU), and doctors say that he has not regained his consciousness since the accident. Manokaran's niece, V. Chandralekha, said he needs assistance to breathe.
The 52-year-old patient was returning from a four-day holiday in Genting Highlands on a Grassland tour bus along with his family. The bus suddenly crashed into a road divider and overturned on the highway linking Karak to Kuala Lumpur.
A spokesman for the Singapore-based Grassland Express and Tours told The Straits Times on Wednesday night that the Malaysian driver and nine of the 12 passengers on board the bus suffered injuries. All the 12 passengers were from Singapore.
Authorities say the cause of the crash has not been determined yet.
The Singapore Embassy officials in Malaysia are assisting the families of those injured.
