Liverpool have confirmed their midfielder Kevin Stewart has signed a new contract on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old came up through the ranks of Tottenham's youth setup, before making his way into the first team in 2013. However, lack of opportunities at the north London club saw him leave White Hart Lane on a free transfer.
In the summer of 2014, he joined the Merseyside club on a two year deal and his contract was set to expire later this summer. Stewart made his debut for the Reds earlier this season and was in action during Liverpool's crushing victory over Aston Villa.
A statement read on Liverpool's website read, "Liverpool FC can confirm Kevin Stewart has today put pen to paper on a new contract with the club."
Stewart was handed his debut by Jurgen Klopp and the former Borussia Dortmund manager is delighted with the midfielder's progress. The player has expressed his delight after putting pen on paper in order to extend his stay at Anfield.
"It gives me more confidence, it shows [the club] believes in me and believe that I could go on to become a good player for them," Stewart told Liverpool's official website.
"It has just given me confidence in myself and the security [I have] time to prove myself and get better with good coaches and good players."
Stewart's progress has been hindered after he picked up an ankle injury during the training session. This contract extension will come as a timely boost as he looks to recover on the sidelines.
