Two bombs exploded late on Tuesday near a hotel in the southern Thai coastal town of Pattani, killing one person and wounding more than 30, police said.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Winyu Tiamraj said the first explosion took place in a parking lot behind the Southern View Hotel but it caused no casualties.
"The second explosion came from a truck parked at the hotel entrance, opposite a karaoke bar and a massage parlour, resulting in one death and 30 injuries," he told Reuters.
Colonel Yutthanam Petchmuang, a spokesman for the military's Internal Security Operations Command, said the car which was used for the second explosion was a stolen hospital pick-up truck that had been mistaken for an ambulance.
"So far there is one killed and more than 30 injured," Major General Thanongsak Wangsupa, Pattani provincial police commander, told AFP. All the casualties were Thai nationals.
"The hotel building was considerably damaged," he added.
The blasts came less than two weeks after a series of explosions targeted high-profile beach resorts in seven provinces in southern Thailand. At least four people killed in those series of blasts and dozens were wounded.
Defence Minister Prawit Wongsuwan has ruled out any possible link between those attacks and the latest explosions.
"I am sure that the incident in Pattani last night has nothing to do with the seven provinces attacks," Prawit said.
