A 6.0 magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of northern Japan for the second-straight day on Saturday, the United States Geological Survey said.
USGS said the epicentre of the quake was located 167 km from Miyako city.
The officials said there were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.
However, Japan Meteorological Agency said the quake that had a depth of 10km did not trigger any tsunami threat.
The tremor comes one day after a 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit north-eastern Japan off the coast of Ibaraki prefecture, south of Fukushima.
Japan is situated at the junction of four tectonic plates and hence it experiences a number of relatively violent quakes every year.
