At least seven people were killed and 11 others injured by a suicide bomber in the north of Baghdad on Wednesday, the second bombing claimed by the Islamic State in two days.
The incident took place when the attacker exploded his car filled with explosives at a checkpoint.
In an online statement, the Islamic State said that this time they had targeted the army. The militant group carries out such bombings in the capital and other parts of Iraq quite frequently.
The Sunni Islamist group claimed the responsibility of a similar attack that killed nine people in Rashidiya on Tuesday.
The recent suicide bombing on July 3 in the central Karrada district killed at least 292 people in one of the worst attacks in Iraq since the US-led forces removed Saddam Hussein 13 years ago.
Following the attack, Baghdad residents blamed the government saying that the authorities were unable to protect the capital.
Reports have shown that the Islamic State has been turning increasingly to suicide bombings. However, the US and Iraqi officials have proclaimed that the defeats in the battlefield have actually weakened the jihadists.
