A man who is suspected to have robbed the Standard Chartered Bank branch on Thursday at Holland Village in Singapore was arrested in Bangkok on Sunday, with the help of the Royal Thai Police.
"The Singapore authorities are currently engaging our counterparts in Thailand to see whether the suspect can be released into our custody," the police told AFP on Monday.
Major General Apichart Suriboonya, who heads Thailand's Interpol unit, said that the suspect is a Canadian. He was arrested on Sunday noon at Boxpacker Hostel in Bangkok.
Last Thursday, he apparently flew from Singapore to Thailand and reached at 17.08 p.m.
The Singapore Police Force said that preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect made off with S$30,000 in cash and there was no use of any weapon at the time of the crime.
The police also said that officers from Clementi Division, the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), the Public Transport Security Command (TransCom) and the Police Intelligence Department (PID) responded immediately and pursued all the available leads regarding the case.
In response to the arrest, Standard Chartered Bank officials said they were glad to see the progress of the investigation.
"We will continue to fully cooperate with the police on the investigations," the bank's spokesperson said.
