Chelsea suffered a massive blow after John Terry left the field after picking up a hamstring injury in the first half in their 5-1 win over Newcastle United at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
The former England international injured himself when he got tangled with the opposition player after going for an aerial challenge. The Premier League champions face Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League clash in the midweek, before taking on Manchester City in the FA Cup next Sunday.
Guus Hiddink admitted that Terry will undergo scan to find out the extent of the injury and Chelsea's first-team interim manager remains hopeful that his captain is not set for a long spell on the sidelines.
"There will be an examination tomorrow, hopefully it's a small muscular problem. It's in his hamstring, there will be a scan and we'll know more," Hiddink told Chelsea's official website.
"It's difficult and we also have a huge FA Cup game. We have to stay calm and make wise decisions towards Tuesday and the upcoming week."
Another Chelsea centre-back Kurt Zouma is set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines after injuring his anterior cruciate ligament in their 1-1 draw against Manchester United at home. The France international is expected to be out for six months and with Terry's latest setback, it leaves Hiddink with short of options in the heart of the back four.
Gary Cahill is the only recognised central defender in the squad, while Branislav Ivanovic can also feature in that position for the Blues. It is likely to duo will start against PSG in the European fixture on Tuesday.
