The world's biggest underwater restaurant is set to open in Maldives with a luxury, five-star and adults-only resort.
The star attraction of the Hurawalhi Island Resort, scheduled to open in November, will be the "5.8" undersea restaurant. The restaurant has been named after its location, situated at 5.8 metres (18 feet) below the lagoon. The island resort is located in the Lhaviyani Atoll.
The restaurant has been designed by architects MJ Murphy, who specialises in aquarium design and it will have seats for 16 guests. While having multi-cuisine food, the diners will experience the marine surroundings through a transparent, domed ceiling.
The mega structure of the restaurant was built in New Zealand for over 10 months and it was then shifted to Maldives on a cargo ship.
The guests will have to enter the restaurant through a little hut on the jetty and then climb down a spiral staircase.
The cuisine will be taken care by well known executive chef Shannon Batten, who has cooked for Bill Clinton, the British royals, Rod Stewart, Bob Geldof, Neil Young, the Rolling Stones, and foreign heads of state.
The resort comprises 90 villas with modern amenities like king-size beds, air conditioning, internet access, private porches and flat screen TVs.
Maldives is already known for world's first undersea restaurant, the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant at the Conrad Maldives Rangali Island resort. It was opened in 2005 which is a big sister property to Hurawalhi.
