Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic has heaped praise on Scott McTominay and has backed the academy graduate to be a "great player" at Old Trafford.
The 20-year-old came up through the ranks of United's youth system, having been at the club since the age of five. Jose Mourinho gave him opportunities at the end of the season as he made his Premier League debut earlier in May.
McTominay was part of United's pre-season tour squad and has been promoted to the first team. In the 20-time English champions' latest 2-0 win over Benfica, the midfielder started his first Champions League match.
Matic played alongside the English midfielder and the Serbian international has vowed to help McTominay improve his game in order to make him a star at United.
"I think Scott is going to be a great player and already is a great player. He's very young, very talented and physically strong," Matic told MUTV, as relayed by United's official website.
"I'm sure he is the future of Manchester United and I enjoy playing with him because he also works really hard and is very confident."
"I'm going to help him in training because I think with his potential he's going to be a big star for Manchester United."
There is a perception against Jose Mourinho that he does not provide opportunities to the academy players in the first team. The Portugeuse tactician was delighted with McTominay's display against Benfica at Old Trafford.
"Even more fantastic with a manager who never gives a chance to a young guy. I'm very happy for him, [he has] great stability and great personality,' Mourinho explained.
