Leicester City took the Premier League and world football by a storm after they went on to win the title in the 2015/16 season.
Jamie Vardy was their star player, scoring 24 goals in the league and he was joined by Riyad Mahrez as the two were instrumental in the Foxes' attack. The England international has now attracted interest from Arsenal and it is reported the Gunners have triggered his £20m release clause.
The north London club's striker Olivier Giroud has revealed that Vardy is keen on playing for Arsene Wenger's side and he remains confident that his arrival will boost Arsenal's attack for the upcoming campaign.
"I have been told that Jamie wants to join us and it's very good news for us. I think we can be complimentary and that's all I can say," Giroud told Sky Sports. "He's a fantastic player, so it's good news for us."
Giroud is aware that Vardy's potential move could hamper his chances of regular game time at the Emirates. However, the France international seems relaxed about the situation as he believes the 29-year-old's switch from Leicester to Arsenal help make the Gunners win the title next term.
"As I said in the past I am happy with competition. We have always had fantastic strikers at Arsenal and I want the best for this club. Hopefully he is going to help us win this title," the Frenchman stressed.
"The boss wanted to sign at least one or two strikers, so I expected a top striker and I think it will benefit the club and hopefully he is going to score a lot of goals like he did at Leicester."
