Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller has revealed he considered swapping the Allianz Arena for Manchester United in the summer of 2015.

The World Cup winner with Germany was heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford when his former manager Louis van Gaal was in charge of the club. The Dutchman was relieved from his duties a year later.

United's executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward tabled a bid of around €100m in bringing the talented forward to the Premier League. The same summer, his compatriot Bastian Schweinsteiger left Bayern for the Red Devils.

Muller revealed that the German champions convinced him to continue, which was the reason why his move to United failed to materialise.

"There was a stage when the subject arose two years ago when it, but then the club immediately backed me and I was told I belong here," Muller was quoted as saying by ESPN.

"I didn't have to think about it a great deal after Bayern said we are counting on you and that you are an important man for us."

In December 2015, Muller signed a new deal that will keep him with the Bundesliga club until 2021. However, the German international has not ruled out a possibility of leaving Bayern in the future.

"Of course, it's possible. When my time is up, it's up. [Bastian] Schweinsteiger was here for over 10 years and now he's been gone for over two years and another player is here instead," he explained.

"It will be exactly the same with me. If I drop dead tomorrow, there will be a funeral, yet on Friday, 11 players will still be out on the pitch. That's life.

"At the moment, I don't think it's going to happen because I am very happy here. However, I'm not saying that somewhere different in the world definitely wouldn't be my thing either.

"If life takes you somewhere else then I would make myself at home there as well. I would follow the same principle as here, enjoying as many good things as possible every day."
