Chelsea have confirmed their star player John Terry has extended his stay at Stamford Bridge by further a year as the centre-back signed a new deal on Tuesday.
The 35-year-old wanted to continue with the west London club, but reluctance in handing him a new deal earlier in the season saw him announce his decision to leave the club. However, in the final stage of the 2015/16 season, the Blues skipper was offered a new contract by the club.
Terry has now accepted Chelsea's new offer, which will keep him at the club until the summer of 2017. The appointment of Antonio Conte as Chelsea's new manager played a key role in the defender extending his stay with his current employers.
"Chelsea Football Club is delighted to announce John Terry has signed a new one-year contract," a statement read on Chelsea's official website.
"The decision has been taken following the appointment of Antonio Conte as the club's new manager last month, and consultation between Terry, Conte, the owner and the board."
After putting pen on paper, Terry expressed his delight as he was given one more year to continue at Chelsea. The club captain also went on to thank the fans for their support.
"I am delighted to sign a new contract with the club. Everyone knows I'm Chelsea through and through. I am looking forward to next season under the new manager and hopefully we can make it a successful one," Terry said, as quoted by the Blues' official website.
"Also, a special mention to the fans for their continued support. You're the best in the world."
