Singapore's Keppel Land, a unit of conglomerate Keppel Group, said its independent director has resigned as his permanent residency was cancelled after "he was identified as an agent of influence of a foreign country".

Ministry of Home Affairs said Huang Jing "knowingly interacted with intelligence organisations and agents of the foreign country, and co-operated with them to influence the Singapore government's foreign policy and public opinion" in the city-state.

Keppel Corp said it has received and accepted Huang's resignation as a director with immediate effect following the cancellation of Singapore Permanent Residence Status for Huang.

The ruling, which also applied to Huang's wife, Shirley Yang Xiuping, means both will be permanently banned from re-entering Singapore.

The Ministry identified couple as U.S. citizens but did not identify the country for whom Huang was said to have been working.

Huang was also a director of the Lee Foundation Professor on U.S.-China Relations, at the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy (LKYSPP).

"Huang used his senior position in the LKYSPP to deliberately and covertly advance the agenda of a foreign country at Singapore's expense," the statement said.
