Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of his visit on Saturday to discuss bilateral relations.
Indian Prime Minister Modi recalled the visit of Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong to India in October 2016, and appreciated the follow-up action taken by both sides on the decisions taken at the Summit, said a statement.
Mr. Shanmugaratnam congratulated the Indian Prime Minister on the successful roll-out of GST and briefed him on the progress in bilateral economic relations, especially in sectors such as investment, urban development, civil aviation and skill development.
The two leaders also discussed the potential for bilateral collaboration in banking, digital finance, tourism, and innovation, said a statement.
India and Singapore have recently upgraded bilateral relationship to the level of a Strategic Partnership, which signifies closer ties in view of the escalation of tension in the South China Sea.
Singapore has set up one Skill Development Centre for India's North Eastern States in Guwahati and a Tourism Training centre in Udaipur, Rajasthan. Singapore is also key partner in developing Amaravati, the new capital city of Andhra Pradesh.
