At least 12 people were injured on Saturday morning after several accidents were caused by an oil spill on the Seletar Expressway (SLE) in Singapore.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) and Singapore Police Force said that they were informed about the accidents by calls at about 7.20 am. SCDF said that it had dispatched two fire engines and eight ambulances to the scene and the injured people were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.
Reports said the accidents took place along SLE towards Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) after the Woodlands Avenue 2 exit.
The police said that the oil spill was caused by an accident involving a trailer and two motorcycles. The resulting oil spill caused a number of accidents, involving nine motorcycles, four cars and a lorry. The 34-year-old trailer driver is assisting the police with their investigations.
The accident was first posted by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on its official Twitter at about 7am. It said that the accidents caused congestion until the Woodlands Avenue 12 exit, and advised motorists to avoid Lanes 1 and 2.
Later at around 10.30 am, LTA tweeted that SLE towards BKE was closed after the Woodlands Avenue 2 exit.
