A consortium involving Singapore's Changi Airports has been awarded a deal to build and manage a new international airport in Yangon, Myanmar, according to reports.
Japan's JGC Corporation and mainboard-listed steel fabricator Yongnam Holdings are the other partners in the consortium that will build the Hanthawaddy International Airport, AsiaOne reported.
JGC, leading Japanese engineering contractors, holds 55 percent interest in the consortium while Yongnam and Changi Airports hold 25 percent and 20 percent, respectively.
The Hanthawaddy airport will have an initial capacity of 12 million passengers a year. The airport, located on a 3,642ha site 80km north-east of Yangon, will be largest airport in Myanmar the report said.
The construction is expected to be completed in 2022.
